Whore, thy name is Katrina...

I'd just like to take a moment and ask everyone here on the blog to give a quick thought and blessing to New Orleans, as the city just took the big D right in the cornhole because of this hurricane. In the past 3 years in Houston, I've been to New Orleans no less that 8 times, and can only imagine the extent of damage that this storm has caused. Our news outlets are saturated with images of despair and sadness, and as much as one fifth of the city of New Orleans is temporarily calling Houston home at this point (with upwards of 25,000 being housed in the Astrodome). In fact, it was about this time last year that I was hell-bent on getting a job at Tulane and moving there, and cannot begin to fathom what I'd be doing/where I'd be right now if that actually happened. Regardless, the rise-from-the-dead voodoo mentality of that city will bring it back, and sure as shit, I'll do my part to get it going, what with $8 hurricanes and Dixie beer at Jean Lafitte's...

When you don't have the right words to express yourself, use someone else’s.

It's not exactly the experience I had, or that anyone else had for that matter, but I think we can all relate to the sentiment. I do not share the optimism of Null, however, and agree with Simmons that I do not think that the city will come back. Not in the way we have grown to know and love it I fear.
